well this sucks

Thu Jul 30, 2009, 12:13 PM
so.

I have hypothyroidism, which is why i feel tired/ache/tremble/etc all the time.

I have to be on a special diet for 5 days because I have to get radioactive iodine treatment for a test and I can't have a lot of iodine in my system. So I can't have dairy, processed meats, iodized salt, grains like white bread and pastas and pastries, as well as a bunch of other things. The purpose of this test is to find out if I should continue with the radioactive iodine to kill my thyroid and then be on synthroid the rest of my life, or if I should take another medication just to supplement it. My endocrinologist believes that I will have to continue with the radioactive iodine because of how bad it is. So this kind of sucks. right now it's because there's all this yummy food sitting around that I want but can't eat... no foodie should ever be put through something like this! and soon enough it will be because I will have to stay away from small children, use plastic silverware, and try not to leak radiation. fun, right?

I should be calling people.

I might have to go to a community college for fall semester because my mother is silly. I have a few more chances but it's looking pretty likely and it's kindof killing me inside because i have SO MANY IDEAS that I need to let out and I don't have the materials/equipment to do so.

I'm really not looking forward to the possibility of going to suffolk. Going from a private school to... suffolk.... just... NO. it doesn't work that way.

happy birthday to me, 8 days later

Sat May 9, 2009, 9:30 AM
hey everybody, I know I haven't written a journal in well, forever, but thats what happens when you're in freshman foundations. Things have been insane. Still at school, thankfully, but only until sunday :(

Regardless of that, the past has been interesting, present is interesting, and future is looking interesting. The most interesting thing lately was my boyfriend's surprise birthday party yesterday. Me and me and mikes friends have been busy busy getting things ready, and his best friend ginger and his girlfriend michelle planned and set up a real life RPG for mike (yes, he's an avid gamer. he loves RPGs. he's a dungeon master. he's a geek. yes, so am I). And he had to break his promise of never ever LARPing. Unfortunately they decided it was to be a "save the princess" kind of thing. so i had to wait, while they had fun. for 3 hours. fortunately, seniors are currently setting up for senior shows, and I got to walk around and get a bit of a sneak peak. I /might/ even post a journal about anything interesting I saw. also, since I'll probably have much much more time this summer than during the school year, I'll even share some of my discoveries (from art magazines, anything I read, stuff online) which I write about obsessively in a moleskine ruled journal I carry with me everywhere. also, I'll write about some of the ideas I've gotten on my own or from things I've seen (most of them are green inspired, I'll warn).

other interesting things are that well, I'm packing, finding all of the things I've ferreted away over the school year. thing's I've found at the REPO DEPO here at school, in garbages around school (I blame Sam, the current director of REPO. he encourages it for us to bring interesting things to REPO. I usually keep all my finds), stuff I've bought, you know, those kinds of things. (it sucks that as I go, I'll probably have to throw some out because there isn't that much room in my mom's car :( ). I've also found out about my Sophmore Studios (how come spell checks hate the word 'sophmore'? I've always wondered) for next semester: Printmaking and Glass Blowing! my other two choices are painting and photography, which I will hopefully get second semester if there's room. There should be though, because they say we have a relatively small class my year.

so this summer. plans? working. and working. some more working after that. I'll be working at my good ol' farm stand that I love so much. It's relatively comfortable and relaxed. unfortunately, for only two days a week. The other job is, you may have guessed it if I told you about it at another time (hell if I remember): Stop & Shop! ew. I really dislike working at that place. but there are few jobs around and that's one that I can get. sadly.

Other plans on my list are thus:

-learning how to sew better. I've been learning how to handstitch better, and I've been teaching myself how to embroider, but I also want to buy a sewing machine and learn how to make clothing.
-learning how to knit and how to crochet better. I've never knitted, but I have been cocheting for awhile and I never really went anywhere with it.
- I definitely want to paint as much as I can, and work on drawing, and all of that.
-sometime during the summer, in june or july, me and my friend steve are thinking about going into the NYC to go to PS1 MoMA, an awesome gallery kind of space you can see here: [link]

there will be a lot of other things going on this summer, butprobably not to much interesting. all I know is that I need as much money as possible for next school year. This is because one, I'm an art student. enough said. second, because I might not have a meal plan next year. let me go farther into this: My family doesn't have too too much money at the moment, what with the recession. Because of this, I have limits on how much my tuition can be, and because I want to be an art teacher after school (which means I also need to get a masters degree), I won't be making an amazing amount of money, and I'll have tons of loans. And if I lag on my payments, my mom won't be able to pick them up, and she's the cosigner for my loans, so end of story is that she told me I can only have personal loans up to a certain amount, and wanting to save money, I've decided to appeal the fact that I'm required to have a meal plan if I'm not a senior and don't live in certain university offered dorms (special interest housing, the ford street apartments) or off campus. I'd like to say I still think it's really well, ridiculous. I think we should have a choice whether or not to eat their food, especially because the majority of it isn't healthy. and even though they do have healthy offerings, if theres french fries and a delicious looking bacon cheeseburger (on whitebread buns I might add), who would choose a salad (unless you're kosher or vegetarian, vegan, or piscatarian?). The other problem with it is that it is, yes, buffet style. which means as many plates of food as you want. I also think that if I have to plan out meals each week, and have to condense things down, I'll be eating smarter and better, as well as in much smaller proportions.

So beyond my rant about how evil AVI is, I'd like to say that the requirements they have to appeal the meal plans are also ridiculous. You either have to have a medical condition, such as an allergy or some other problem that requires you to have a special diet, or that you have a financial problem, or religious reasons. They also cite that certain ways of living, such as veganism or vegetarianism, also count as a reason to appeal. I believe, for one, that they should also mention piscatarians and other things, such as people who eat all organic. but that's just me. If it's a medical thing, you need a note from a doctor (that makes sense), or nutritional, they suggest you have a talk with their free (as in completely biased towards making you eat in the dining halls) nutritionist so they can "work out" your problems with the dining halls. If it's financial, they want documentation detailing your financial hardship as well as how being exempt from meals will help solve aforementioned hardships. theres a ton more after that, including an essay detailing things. in other words. THEY DO NOT WANT YOU TO NOT HAVE A MEAL.under any costs. it's irritating.

so besides that, next year will be crazy busy. I'll be living in the dorm that is FARTHEST from everything on campus. and there are no direst routes to it. theres a road up on the hill that goes behind campus from one end to the other. it's pretty much at the /middle/ of that road. exercise, here I come! besides that, its supposed to be awesome. it's a newer building, I'll be in a single thats the size of most doubles on the rest of campus, its clean, and best of all: away from most of the drunk wanderers. the room I've been staying in (my boyfriends) is on the front end of campus, and right across the creek from us is you guessed it: a party house! now that it's warm, they've been letting their windows and doors open, and best of all, carrying their party outside! there is a limit with partying, and they crossed it a long, long time ago. This dorm is also, happily, one of the less populated smaller ones (people don't like the walk, i guess), and it is also closer to my boyfriends suite to be than the other options I was looking at. The only thing that sucks besides the distance is that it apparently doesnt have ovens (WHAT?!) but reportedly does have stoves. irritating. I'll just cook at the suite :D I am planning on getting a bike, however, either a nice normal one, or hopefully this unfortunately expensive electric-assist: [link] this little baby will get me up hills without breaking too much of a sweat, which is important. because there are hills everywhere. especially leading to the dorm I'll have next year.

SO! now that I have ranted about many things and filled in on as much as I can think of, I'll say that I'll try and get some of my stuff from this past semester up asap, and here are a few interesting websites and blogs:
